Crafting Kagoshima's Local Whisky
Right in front of a Calm Ocean.
KANOSUKE DISTILLERY stands on a piece of land found on the Fukiage beach of Kagoshima prefecture. Fukiage beach, which has the longest beach line all over Japan, is known for its beautiful white sand. Facing the East China sea, this beach has been a place where various types of culture had arrived from all over the world, and the culture also had matured around the area. For example, Miyama, a small town near the disitillery, is known as a town that has been crafting elaborate Satsuma porcelain for over four hundred years.
Komasa Jyozo Co., Ltd, the parent company of KANOSUKE DISTILLERY was founded in 1883. For its history of over 130 years, the company has persisted in its innovative attitude. For instance, "Mellowed Kozuru," one of our signature shochu (Japan's distilled beverage) is made from the highest quality rice, and notably, aged in oak barrels which is a rare process in making shochu. The soft and mild taste, which was gained by the ocean wind, has been loved by a great amount of people in Japan.
To starting off a new ship of whisky distillery, we carefully reconsidered the value of our history. We believe we can make use of our experience of crafting shochu, in crafting whisky, both of which are distilled spirits. Our mellowed whisky which will be ready in three years, will show you a mild, mellow landscape.
