The older brother Yoshitsugu’s
commitment to cask maturation
From his childhood days, Yoshitsugu looked up to his grandfather Kanosuke, who was strict but devoted to shochu making. Then, Yoshitsugu wound up inheriting the family shochu company Komasa Jyozo with its 140-year history, becoming the fourth-generation master distiller. And when he took the plunge into whisky production in 2017, his heart was strongly set on wanting to use experience and techniques from shochu making.
So, he set about re-charring the casks that had been used in Japan’s first cask-aged shochu, “Mellowed Kozuru”, which Kanosuke had previously developed. And he used those casks for whisky maturation. Using this as the base resulted in the birth of SINGLE MALT KANOSUKE.

The younger brother Norihisa Michihisa leads
shochu making technique
KANOSUKE HIOKI POT STILL utilises the distillation techniques accumulated at the shochu distillery Hioki Distillery. For this quest to succeed, the presence of both the older brother Yoshitsugu and the younger brother Norihisa — two grandsons with their own individual distinctiveness — was essential.
Norihisa was raised in a free environment, but eventually became more and more interested in the family business, and joined Komasa Jyozo under the wing of his older brother. And even after he was appointed as the fifth-generation master distiller, he continued to evolve the technique and environment of the distillery calmly and steadily together with the other distillers.
KANOSUKE HIOKI POT STILL is, in fact, a bottle imbued with his expertise and conviction.

Making a globally recognised distilled spirits in Kagoshima.
This was the dream of the second-generation master distiller Kanosuke. And what gradually propelled the company towards realising that dream was the differing distinctiveness of each grandson.
The older brother Yoshitsugu and the younger brother Norihisa — The sensitivity and techniques refined through their own separate paths intertwined to produce KANOSUKE DOUBLE DISTILLERY, a pure reflection of their spirits.
